Advertisement The first-person shooter (FPS) genre is. Games like Call of Duty, Halo, and Counter-Strike are among the most-played titles in gaming history. But you can’t really take them with you on-the-go. For that, you’ll have to settle for a browser-based FPS instead.

Unfortunately, a lot of the best browser-based FPS games don’t work in your browser anymore (such as Quake Live) or were discontinued for some reason (such as Battlefield Heroes). This pretty much leaves us with indie FPS games, which are playable but tend to come with standard indie game problems (read: small playerbases). A Note on Unity Web Player The Unity Engine is one of the these days, so it’s no surprise that most indie games are now made using this engine. There’s nothing wrong with Unity per se, but one drawback is that its browser games require a special plugin called. Unity Web Player doesn’t take up much space and is very quick to install — it’s only 12 MB on my system — but isn’t available on Chrome or Edge. In other words, if you want to play most of these browser-based FPS games, you’ll need to do so on Firefox, Opera, or Internet Explorer.

There are only two games on this list that don’t require it. Requires Unity Web Player? Contract Wars is a feature-packed game. With five game modes, a dozen different maps, and over 60 unique weapons, the replayability is pretty high.

On top of that, it has skill trees and team tactics that allow you to power up your character and pull off interesting strategies. A lot of players complain that Contract Wars the higher you go, but if you just want to play to kill time and you’re okay with ignoring such power disparities, you’ll be fine. The gameplay itself is smooth and enjoyable. Play Now — 2. Requires Unity Web Player? If you summed up Rush Team in one word, it would be solid.

Don’t come into this one expecting flashy effects, innovative gameplay, or anything else that’s anywhere near industry-changing. There’s only one reason to play Rush Team: you want a traditional shooter experience. You’ll find the usual gameplay elements: melee weapons, pistols, rifles, grenades, etc. A Free For All mode is available, but Rush Team is best played in one of its team-based, objective-focused modes. Some cosmetic and gameplay features are only available to VIPs, but you’ll be fine without them.

As of this writing, only the Europe and USA East regions have a populated playerbase. Requires Unity Web Player? Red Crucible: Firestorm is thematically similar to the games mentioned above: a slow-paced, war-based shooter with sprinting, iron sights, and the like. The difference is in game modes. While Team Deathmatch is the most popular mode, the second most popular is Conquer, which is an objective-based mode that involves control points. Unfortunately, some Red Crucible fans didn’t like the Firestorm release because of poor optimizations.

Even though it looks good enough and is one of the most aesthetically pleasing FPS browser games, the performance requirements are a bit tough. Play Now — 4. Requires Unity Web Player? Seeing as Red Crucible: Firestorm wasn’t universally accepted, Rocketeer Games released a separate game intended to appeal to those who preferred the older Red Crucible 2. Not only does Red Crucible: Reloaded run better on slower machines, it has slightly different gameplay, too. But the two games — Firestorm and Reloaded — are ultimately pretty similar so you should enjoy either one. Go with Firestorm if you have a strong computer; try Reloaded if you’re that can’t handle Firestorm.

Play Now — 5. Requires Unity Web Player? Warmerise: Red vs. Blue may not look all that nice — closer in aesthetics to 90s-era shooters like Quake and the original Counter-Strike — but it’s balanced out by its gameplay and player activity.

It has a that keeps players motivated, and though it only has elimination-based game modes, it is unique in that it has vehicular combat. In terms of playerbase, Warmerise is one of the healthiest games on this list.

Matches are easy to find even during off-peak hours in the U.S. All in all, if you can get over the outdated graphics, this is a solid choice for browser-based FPS gaming.

Play Now — 6. Requires Unity Web Player? Often called the grandfather of modern 3D shooters, Wolfenstein 3D is a monumental classic that. You play as an Allied spy who fights his way through Castle Wolfenstein, slaughtering Nazis and tracking down the Fuhrer himself for a grand showdown.

Despite the simplistic gameplay, it’s surprisingly fun. Santana Spirits Dancing In The Flesh RARE. The game was originally released for MS-DOS, which meant you could only. But for the game’s 20th anniversary in 2012, Bethesda Softworks released a web version that’s playable for free — one of the best examples of a. Play Now — What Are Your Favorite Browser Games?
