Hi Scott, I have just upgraded to Windows 7 Pro (32 bit) from XP, and am now unable to get my d5400 to work using anything I have tried - the Dimage Scan utility, the TWAIN photoshop import plugin, or an old copy of Silverfast I had knocking around. I just continuously get error=4 could not confirm scanner connection. I originally had it plugged into the firewire port, but have now plugged it into the USB, but still no luck.:-( I already tried to do solution 2 on which is I think is what you are talking about, but my problem is that the minolta software installer (DS115E.exe) doesn't appear to have installed any drivers anywhere (that I can find anyhow), so I can't update the driver with the version on that page. I bought the Pro version of 7, so I could run a virtual version of XP for this very scanner, only to find that my processor (E7200) was a cut down version that didn't support it! Grrrr Any help would be very gratefully appreciated (I have another 30,000 images to scan!).
Actually I have installed the.inf driver from that page now (I found the Action/Add Legacy Hardware option on the Device Manager). In the Device manager, the 'Minolta DiMage Scan Elite 5400' shows up with an exclamation mark and the status of the device is given as 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)' I notice that the scanner does not show up in 'view scanners and cameras' list (though my flatbed does), so it is obviously not being recognised. Unfortunately I still get the same error.
